I’m a licensed Nutritionist Whose Spent Years Studying Longevity in the Best Laboratory in the World — Italy’s Small Villages.
Here’s what I’ve discovered in those villages — and perhaps even more importantly, from the groups of travelers who have shared in my “laboratory” excursions and experiences.
First, these do not exist in communities of the longest living populations:
Special “hacks” to extend health or lifespan.
A multitude of supplements, pro biotics, and special foods.
Workout routines that will slim, trim, take-off weight and make you look better.
Antiaging pharmaceuticals.
Influencers that will show you the way.
And, while it might seem strange coming from a nutritionist, not even special diets or the “Mediterranean Diet” alone achieves true longevity.
Observational and scientific studies of the longest living and healthy populations over the past 25 years have revealed the pillars of longevity.
The pillars are:
Movement that’s built into your daily life.
Exposure to the outdoors on a regular basis.
A seasonal and local diet of fresh, preferrable organic diet.
Social networking on a one-on-one basis.
Living in a supportive community of individuals or network of supportive friends.
Not being socially isolated.
Knowing and living your life’s purpose.
Despite a clear understanding of the above, a lifestyle of longevity remains elusive for the majority of people in the U.S. and beyond. It has been frustrating for me to accept, especially since the U.S. is ranked 47th in the world for lifespan according to recent WHO reports.
Why is it so elusive?
My own travelers provided the answer in a survey following a group excursion to Sardinia last September.
The simple answer?
They do not know how to adapt the pillars of longevity in the industrialized lifestyle in which they live.
I’ve received emails, letters and notes from travelers telling me how they ate everything they wanted and still lost weight in ten days, how they walked much more than usual and enjoyed it, how they unloaded stress and so much more.
It’s wonderful getting these notes and testimonials but at the same time it’s frustrating to know they are back to the same issues shortly after returning home.
Living a lifestyle of longevity is not a diet, hack, or anything else — it’s a mindset — a different way of thinking about your social life, what you eat, how to move, how to inject joy into your life and so much more.
Your very own mindset will guide you to remarkable results and needed adaptations. This alone will take you farther than any other time consuming and costly hack for longevity.
I’ve learned for sure this is true; Knowledge is valuable, but it’s the right mindset that drives lasting results.
My monthly newsletter “Longevity Tips” provides both knowledge and mindset with one actionable and easy to do tip each month.
